Cars in Germany's Town Found Smeared with Swastikas in Human Blood, Police Report

Roughly fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Law enforcement say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.

The substance had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Officers then located numerous other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement report preliminary tests indicate the substance was probably human blood.

"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; officials are currently not informed of any harm in association with the incident," they stated.

Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the case" and have asked to the public for information.

An important official said the attack left him without words and needed to be solved quickly.

"This event affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist attack five years ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the killing of nine people by a assailant targeting residents of migrant background in 2020.
